The UK has been revealed as the third best country in the whole world for the review site's certificate of excellence awards.

It comes behind Ireland in second, and Iceland, which tops the excellence league.

The site offers its certificate of excellence scheme to pubs based on its food, accommodation and service reviews created by travellers.

Around seven per cent of all properties listed on the site received a certificate of excellence this year – but in certain areas it is considerably higher.

At a city level across the UK, Edinburgh and Glasgow have been ranked third and ninth across the world – and are the only UK cities in the top ten.

Key West in the US and Iceland's Reykjavik take first and second place in the world respectively.

Not a single city in the UK was in the top ten for accommodation though.
