Publicans and pub chefs are being urged to enter the inaugural Pub Awards, run by PUB20.

The awards will celebrate the passion, vision and achievements of the very best in the business.

Those who wish to enter themselves or nominate other deserving candidates, are being invited to submit their entries by 5pm on Friday, November 1.

This year's categories are:

Best Publican

Celebrating an inspirational landlord or landlady who has made a significant contribution to the pub industry and has a reputation for pushing boundaries to change the pub landscape and create exceptional customer experiences.

Pub Chef of the Year

Recognising an individual who not only provides a remarkable food offering, but has developed a profitable, high quality, well presented and memorable menu.

Alex Booth, The Pub Show commercial manager, said: "The accolades not only shine a light on the champions of the trade but give winners the chance to raise their public profile.

"We are so excited to host The Pub Awards for the first time and are delighted to have the opportunity to draw attention to the amazing people in our vibrant sector."

An elite panel of judges including Pub is the Hub chief executive John Longden OBE, Hippo Inns Co-founder Ian Edward, Good Pub Guide editor Fiona Stapley, The Food & Drink Marketer Mark McCulloch, and Inapub's editor Robyn Black, will draw up a shortlist of six nominees for each category, before voting is opened to the industry and the wider community.

Shortlisted publicans and pub chefs will be contacted in the first week of January and the winners will be announced on Tuesday, February 4 during a special ceremony at PUB20.

The Food & Drink Marketer, Mark CuCulloch, said: "Pubs are the fabric of local communities, forming an important part of our national identity, bringing together friends and families and tackling issues such as loneliness and isolation. Despite recent challenging times in the industry, landlords and chefs are doing a brilliant job, continuing to innovate and raising the bar. It is only right they deserve this recognition for the hard work they do."

Featuring more than 200 exhibitors, The Pub Show, now in its sixth year, will take place on February 4-5 at London Olympia.
