Curry-lovers' favourite, Kingfisher Beer, has launched a cider created specifically to pair with Asian food.

Peacock was made in collaboration with Suffolk cider makers, Aspall, and is a 4.8 per cent ABV cider made from fresh pressed culinary and bittersweet apples.

It will be available across the whole on-trade from November 21, although focus will be on driving distribution in the Asian restaurant sector, where there is currently an untapped demand for cider – 38 per cent currently don't sell cider in any format, said senior brand manager Gemma Watkins.

"As well as category growth, market research underlines the appetite for the brand, with 73 per cent of consumers saying they would choose a cider with Asian food and 97 per cent of cider consumers saying they would drink an Asian cider if available," she added.

Some studies suggest pubs are missing out on the popularity of more exotic cuisines, while curry is the ideal way to use up leftover turkey at Christmas.

Aspall director Henry Chevalier Guild launched an Indian cider, Bhai, of his own last year.
