The search is on to find extraordinary pubs in a John Smith's campaign with comedian Paddy McGuiness.

Punters are being asked to nominate pubs that are 'only ordinary by name' - they could have infamous regulars, resident ghosts or anything else that marks them out from the crowd.

The winning – or least ordinary - pub will receive £5,000 in cash, a plaque commemorating their achievement and a visit from Paddy.

The Take Me Out host says he has been fascinated by pubs ever since his mum was in the local paper for seeing a ghost in one.

"A good pub for me is all about a friendly atmosphere. It's all about that camaraderie with your mates, a place to relax, socialise and have fun in one," he added.

Ifeoma Dozie, beer brand director at John Smith's brand owner Heineken, said: "We are so lucky to have thousands of wonderful pubs in the UK, full of history, legends and quirks.

"This campaign not only brings these wonderful stories to life, but it also puts pubs and John Smith's firmly together in people's minds."

It is being run in partnership with Trinity Mirror.

John Smith's introduced its' Ordinary Only By Name' marketing campaign last spring. It is the leading keg ale brand in the UK with around 45 per cent value share.
