Artist David Hockney's 80th birthday will be celebrated with a celebratory beer from Bradford Brewery.

Bradford-born Hockney, dubbed “Britain’s greatest living artist”, will turn 80 this weekend (July 9) and the brewery wants people to raise a beer in his name.

The brew, aptly called Hockey’s 80th, is an “artistic pale ale” with citrus and tropical notes.

Bradford Brewery already produces Hockney Pale Ale in homage to its hometown artist, which is available all year round.

Head brewer, Graeme Rothery (pictured above), said: “Hockney’s 80th is a new twist on the brewery’s core range Hockney Pale, with late addition hops added into the brew later on in the boil to give more flavour and aroma. The aim was to create a hoppy, vibrant and characterful beer that was session strength but full flavoured.”

The beer will be sold in pubs across Yorkshire and is purchasable from cask ale wholesalers.
