The 0.5 per cent ABV version of Old Speckled Hen reflects "changing lifestyles and the consumer landscape embracing healthier living," said brewer Greene King

Like the original five per cent ABV ale this low alcohol version is brewed with Pale and Crystal malts and Challenger, First Gold and Goldings hops.

"Important in the decision whether to introduce low or no alcohol version of our famous beer is the driving belief that the beer should always taste like a proper beer," explains Matt Starbuck, managing director of Greene King Brewing & Brands.

"After extensive consumer tasting trials and expert tasting panel analysis it was decided to introduce a low alcohol version so our brewers could absolutely match that consumer expectation."

Low and no alcohol beers are becoming more common and more socially acceptable - nearly a quarter of UK adults claim they have consumed no or low alcohol beer in the last year (Populus Omnibus survey 2018).

Old Speckled Hen Low Alcohol is being launched in 500ml bottles and is available to free trade and Greene King pubs now.
