If you fancy something a little racier than a cucumber sandwich to serve with your afternoon teas, then take a look at this latest bakery hybrid – a scone-brioche cross.

Bakery supplier Speciality Breads has launched a Scioche so pubs and restaurants can add something different to the menu.

The product is created with the bakery’s award-winning brioche recipe and "the best elements of a scone."

Two 140g variants are available to buy in boxes of 20. These are the Original Scioche and the Sicilian lemon & poppyseed Scioche.

The bakery recommends that the products are served traditionally with fruit & cream or with savoury recipes, like lemon & poppyseed Scioche topped with scallops & chorizo.

Speciality Breads’ managing director, Simon Cannell, said: “Unique, quirky, versatile, great tasting - I think it will do huge things in 2017.”

Afternoon tea has been highlighted as a key growth area for pubs by market research company Mintel.
