New data from home delivery firm Just Eat suggests a growing number of Brits are ordering takeaways on Christmas Day.

 

While most pubs will be focusing on their internal menu options on Christmas Day, there is a growing need for food options delivered to homes across the UK.

Last year saw 5,000 takeaways open on Christmas Day with the majority of orders being for a kebab.

The full breakdown from 2017 is:

• Kebab - 25% 
• Margherita Pizza - 18% 
• Cheeseburger - 9%
• Chicken Burger - 8%
• Fried Chicken - 6%
• Chicken Nuggets - 6%
• Chicken Tikka Masala - 3%
• Chicken Wrap - 3%
• Chicken Korma - 3%
• Beef Burger - 2%

Just Eat has also launched an interactive heat map of the UK's takeaway habits on Christmas Day, revealing where takeaway curries, pizzas, and burgers were delivered to across the nation.

There were around 20,000 takeaways open on New Year's Day too - and Just Eat is predicting more will be serving dishes this year.

The firm predicts 165,000 Chinese dishes, 134,000 Indian meals and 169,000 pizzas will have been ordered on its website and mobile app as we enter 2019.

The top five best-selling dishes on New Year's Day 2018 were:

  • Kebabs – 15%
  • Sweet and Sour Chicken – 8%
  • Margherita Pizza – 8%
  • Chicken Tikka Masala – 8%
  • Chicken Chow Mein – 7%
