Never missing an excellent business opportunity, JD Wetherspoon has 'secretly' launched a vegan pizza, it has been claimed.

According to local paper Edinburgh Live, the pubco has adapted its veggie pizza, which came onto the menu in the autumn of 2018 to make it a vegan one.

Although not on the menu yet, it has appeared on the smartphone app – where food is delivered straight to the table when ordered online - as a separate variant of the vegetarian pizza.

Dubbed a "gourmet vegan pizza", the local paper claims it has been added 'in the last few days', coinciding with Veganuary and the marketing sensation of Gregg's vegan sausage roll.

Priced at £6.49, the pizza doesn't have vegan cheese, but instead offers mushrooms, roasted peppers, tomatoes, onions and courgette. It is also a fairly healthy 590 calories.

Wetherspoons senior food development manager, Matt Elsdon, told the local paper it had listed a gourmet vegetarian pizza with roasted vegetables and mushrooms in our autumn menu change.

"But if you remove the cheese then the pizza is suitable for vegans, so we listed separately," Matt said, "it's only just been launched and has been well received so far, so no plans to remove it."
