The Commodore in Grange-over-Sands has developed the whopping festive treat, which it is serving wrapped in a giant Yorkshire pudding.

A normal Christmas lunch at the pub will cost £14.99 but the version with the giant side will go for £29.99. Diners who want to order the pig in blanket to eat by itself or to share it with pals as part of a different meal, can order it separately for £16.99.

It is available by pre-order only however, due to the cooking time required said the pub's general manager Charlotte Hargan.

"Move over turkey - for many people over the Christmas period, it's all about the pigs in blankets," she said.

"They are a festive treat to behold and a perennial favourite here at The Commodore. So this year we have taken this festive classic and supercharged it. Our chef has created the most amazing - and meaty - pig in blanket, floated it in an enormous Yorkshire pudding and used it as a base for turkey with every trimming you could wish for.

"It is a Christmas lunch for those with the appetite of a lion - and will certainly take some beating."

Quirky Christmas treats are becoming something of a festive tradition in some pubs. Check out this glitter gravy or these cows-in-quilts.
