BT Sport has announced details of free digital training for pubs across the UK in partnership with Google Digital Garage.

The training provides publicans with digital skills to grow their business, focusing on making businesses more visible online - and ensuring social media is working for them.

Sessions will take place at sports venues including Anfield, Murrayfield, Old Trafford as well as the BT Tower. It will include workshops and face-to-face coaching on digital skills, including the opportunity to discuss with specialists on website optimisation, online advertising, and analytics.

Publicans will also hear from members of the BT Sport team including Harry Redknapp, Lawrence Dallaglio, Steve McManaman, Ugo Monye, and Robbie Savage.

Planning ahead

The programme was launched after a survey revealed 55 per cent of people plan ahead when going to watch live sport - and 45 per cent 'follow' a pub or bar on social media.

But 58 per cent of BT Sport pubs have said they would promote sports event more on social media if they knew how to maximise the opportunity.

Bruce Cuthbert, director of commercial customers, BT Sport, said: "Having a presence on social media has become key for publicans to encourage new and existing customers into their venues. Our customers also tell us that that many of them are not entirely confident in how to do this to get the best results possible.

"Teaming up with Google Digital Garage means we will be able to give our licensees the chance to get practical training from experts which they can put into practice straight away to raise their profile with their customers."
