The Champions League returns next week with the first in a series of double headers that could help pubs extend their trading times.

BT Sport will be showing back to back games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in a format change that replicates the Europa League on Thursdays.

The action starts with a tantalising double. Spurs start their campaign away at Inter Milan at 5.55pm on Tuesday (September 18).

This is followed by Liverpool welcoming Neymar, Mbappe and the rest of the PSG crew to Anfield for an 8pm kick off later that night.

The other Premier League sides, Manchester City and Manchester United, both play on Wednesday at 8pm.

The format potentially doubles the trading opportunity for pubs.

Bruce Cuthbert, BT Sport director commercial customers, said research has revealed that 80 per cent of BT Sport customers believe that being able to show back-to-back Champions League games will make them more money.

He added: "The change to fixtures extends the viewing window massively for pubs to show games from 6pm through to 10pm. It's doubling the number of viewing opportunities and potentially means people will stay in the pub for longer."
