They say that Christmas comes but once a year - but in this pub, it is celebrated twice as festive cheer arrives in August!

The Angel in Glemsford, Suffolk, enjoys three days of Christmas to mark the start of the football season. It's the second time Debs and Mick Broadbent have hosted the event at the pub, having successfully run it at their previous pub for three years.

Called 'I Can't Believe It's Not Christmas', it begins with Christmas Eve on Friday where people can take part in Christmas karaoke. On Saturday, there are Boxing Day themed celebrations to mark the first football fixtures for the new Premier League season, with live games on in the pub.

And Sunday is the big day itself - Christmas Day. People enjoy a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and everyone in a Christmas jumper gets a free drink.

There's a big six foot Christmas tree and a Santa outside advertising what's going on.

Debs said it's become hugely popular with the whole day fully booked several weeks in advance.

"We are absolutely chock-a-blocked. It's booked up now," she said.

"It's something different in the middle of summer. Last year we weren't sure how people were going to take it. But this year people were all asking if we were going to do it again.

"They enjoy it and they go out and have a good time. They like spending time with their family. We think people like to do it more than once a year. But you are always going to have those that don't."

Debs said it works well organising it around the beginning of the new season.

"People wait all summer for the football to start again, so it's something to celebrate.

"There's a campsite up the road and we get a lot of people coming here in the summer and it becomes a real talking point for people.

"I love it - any excuse for a party and anything that will fill the pub!"
