The licensees of a community pub in Oxfordshire have been announced as the winners of a unique TV advert campaign competition, run by Sky.

Andrew Fudge and Kylie Buckle, licensees of The Grapes in Abingdon, a high street pub with a community focus, were drawn from thousands of pubs who entered and they will now have a TV advert and advertising campaign created especially for their business.

The advert, which will centre around their pub, will be created at no cost to Andrew and Kylie. It will be shown across Sky's channels in the run up to Easter through AdSmart from Sky.

It enables different adverts to be shown to different households watching the same programme. It means pubs can advertise on national channels but to relevant audiences in their local postcode area.

Andrew Fudge said: "Kylie and I feel overawed with winning the competition. It's a fantastic opportunity to reach new customers and showcase the best of our business.

"We bought the pub around five and a half years ago and since then the pub has gone from strength to strength. It was originally earmarked to close, so it's great that we were able to make sure that The Grapes remained at the heart of Abingdon community.

"The timing of the advert is perfect really – we've spent the last year investing in pub with new furniture, more screens and the ultimate, an 80s style video arcade machine.

"Plus, we'll be getting the beer garden ready for all the brilliant sport that's on over the summer. Hopefully, the advertising campaign from Sky will contribute to boosting business."
